P-38 Progress at last :)

Well after a 3 month lapse here is an update on my P-38.

Cockpit painted and fitted, fuselage together and after many hours filling, sanding and re-scribing it's almost ready for some paint-YAY!!!

 

 

Props, landing gear and fuel tanks are done and weathered already. Canopy is already masked as well so lots of little bits finished and ready to go.

Still working on the nose section and re-scribing this area now.

Time for some Lightning! Academy P-38 Build....

Hi all,

Ok so here is where I am at with my recently started Academy 1/48 P-38. It is the multi-version kit that allows you to do 4 different varients. I have been chipping away at the main sub-assemblies whilst waiting for the Ledgend cockpit to arrive from Lucky Model (It finally arrived today)

Wow look at the super detailed instruction sheet below, not much to go with for someone that has never used a full after market cockpit before....

Here is the current status of my build witht the 2 external fuselage halves joined, wheel bays inserted and also pre shaded black, landing gear in place due to the build process, I figured it is easier to try to manipulate the painting rather than to try to get the buggers in later?

The wing sections are just tapped together due to the fact I really needed to have the cockpit to proceed further (It does look as thought I could actually add this later but until I have the cockpit in my hands I wanted to play it safe.

The overall fit is actually quite good and whilst it is no Tamiya P-47 it wont pose too many problems. The main issue and I have read that this is a common problem is that there are some unsightly gaps in the nose section probably due to the multiple options that they make available. It just means that I will get some practice re-scribing the panel lines taht will no doubt disapear.

I have also got some paint onto the props:

I will get some Duralinium or maybe Dull Aluminium onto them tonight...

Ok, so here is the Roman Cavalry Officer  (yes it is Russell Crowe from Gladiator) I have recently started. It is a 54mm metal miniature by Latorre Models
I have cleaned it up and primed using Tamiya Grey metal primer. I have used Enamels on the face so far but it still needs some work in my novice hands. Also note that a small bit of paint has worn of his nose

I started painting the boots last night and used a mixture of Vallejo Model Color Black, English Uniform and Vermillion. I then have started to highlight with just the English Uniform. I still have a lot to learn about getting my layers nice and smooth so the transition to highlight is appropriate.

I will then do some shadows just using a mixture of Black & Vermillion.

My First Blog,

Inspired by a fellow modeller's blog I have decided to start one up of my own to show of what I am up to, get feedback from you guys and to motivate myself to not only improve my modelling but also just to spend some more time on the workbench.

I have been modelling for about 5 years now and mainly Have an interest in 1/48 aircraft. I also have been collecting 1/35 armour and a few other's like cars and sci-fi. I also have a keen interest in miniature figure painting both historic and fantasy and will showcase my trials and tribulations along the way.
